Underlined areas are for inserting your personal information. This is a standard letter and it is suggested that your standard complaint letter should remain essentially the same no matter which person at the school it is sent to or given. Keeping the same standard format for a letter makes the school's continued refusal to take corrective action stand out and is a very effective tool should you take your complaint to a higher or federal level.
Initial Complaint Letter
May 3, 2010
I am writing to request your assistance regarding a recent incident of bullying, assault and intimidation that took place at your school.
The incident occurred on May 3, 2010 and was witnessed by a teacher and several students. The student(s) responsible for the bullying, assault and harassment is Joe Bob Blank.
Joe Bob Blank pushed my son into a wall and called him several derogatory names. The above referenced witness did nothing to stop the bully and apparently failed to report the incident to you.
This correspondence is a request for an investigation into this incident by your office; a request for you to follow the procedural directives of the Department of Education's No Bullying Policy and use the available tools provided to you by this state to assign a timely and effective punishment to the offender.
Be advised that should no action be taken by your office regarding the bullying of my child, I will file a formal complaint with the Department of Education and request an investigation into your office.
